The Brueninghaus Hydromatik A4VSO series piston pump is a variable displacement pump with a swashplate designed for open-loop hydrostatic drives. Pump flow is proportional to the drive speed and displacement. Adjusting the swashplate allows for infinitely variable flow.

In open-loop operation, the working fluid flows from the reservoir to the variable displacement pump, from where it is pumped through a distributor to the receiver. From the receiver, the working fluid flows back through the distributor to the reservoir.
